I attended Birkdale School for the Deaf – I am profoundly deaf but I am able to communicate with both deaf and hearing people. After leaving school, I did several accounts jobs before joining the Civil Service in Preston and transferred to the Foreign Office in London. After 6 years, I achieved my dream job as a Detector dog handler at Heathrow Airport. In 2015, I moved back up north and began to volunteer at Manchester Deaf Centre, before securing this job.

Over 30 years, I have been on several deaf committees, organising balls, events and admin. I spent a few years as Secretary for the North West Deaf Sports Council and am now on the Board of Trustees for the Birkdale Trust.
