I joined MDC as a trustee in October 2023. In March 2024 I joined MDC staff as Children and Young People's Service Manager and in November 2024 I became Services Manager. I manage a team of advocates, employment advisors, Wellbeing and MDSC project officers, youth workers and project administrators to provide support for d/Deaf people of all ages in Manchester and beyond.
My background is in translation and education with a focus on removing communication barriers. I am a hearing person and was introduced to the D/deaf community through subtitle translation. In 2022 I did training in Subtitling for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Audiences (SDH) which led to me studying BSL Level 1 at MDC in 2023. I am actively learning BSL and plan to reach Level 6 by 2029 thanks to MDC’s amazing BSL courses.
In my free time, I love spending time with family, travelling and trying new foods. I love languages and enjoy learning Italian, French, Spanish and Welsh. I am also teaching myself to use a sewing machine and dream of making my own clothes one day!
