Wayne Sharples

Youth Worker, Wellbeing Officer, BSL/DA Tutor

I’m Wayne, I’m profoundly deaf and a native BSL user. I have a BA Honours degree in British Sign Language and I graduated from UCLAN in 2012. I love performance, dance and theatre and I was involved in the Paralympics opening ceremony in 2012. I also have experience doing BSL translations for ITV.

For the past 2 years I have been a BSL teacher, and I also deliver Deaf Awareness training. I work as a Wellbeing Officer where I support clients on various trips around Manchester or here at MDC. We organise for outside organisations to come in and do workshops with the clients. In autumn 2024 I started working on the CYPS team where I support different youth groups at various events.

My hobbies include playing Mixed Ability Rugby for Bolton Buccaneers team for over one year now and I like going to the gym to keep fit. I also enjoy attending deaf exhibition events, watching accessible theatre (with a BSL interpreter or captions), socialising with friends and relaxing in my free time at home watching TV.
