Children and Young People’s Service update

May 2024

The Children and Young People's Service (CYPS) offers a range of events and activities for d/Deaf children and their families both at Manchester Deaf Centre and at venues around Greater Manchester. We help our members to have fun, make friends and develop essential life skills along the way. Our team has grown recently and we’re proud to present Manchester Deaf Centre's new Children and Young People's Service team!

Madeline (pictured, third from left) is the new manager of the CYPS team. She is hearing and has passed Level 2 British Sign Language. She hopes to start Level 3 this autumn. One of her favourite hobbies is sewing. She really doesn’t like heights!

Charis (pictured, second from left) is the new Lead Youth Worker for Sign and Play and Kids' Club. They are Deaf and have a big passion for TikTok and content creation. They like sports and animals. The only sport they don't like is tennis!

Helen, our CYPS Project Admin Coordinator

Laurie (pictured, first on left) is the new Sessional Worker for Sign and Play and Kids' Club with Charis. She is hearing and just completed British Sign Language Level 2. She hopes to begin Level 3 BSL this year! Laurie loves gardening and she enjoys helping people. She is scared of spiders but would never hurt them!

Mohamed (pictured, second from right) is the new Lead Youth Worker for Youth Club and DAVE Project. He is Deaf, has a big passion for working with people and likes watching films and sports. He does not like snow!

Michelle (pictured, first on right) is the new Sessional Worker for Youth Club and DAVE Project with Mo. She is Deaf and loves going out to watch shows. She also loves shopping and walking with the dog. She doesn't like peas and carrots!

Helen (separate picture) is the new CYPS Project Admin Coordinator. She is hearing and has a deaf sister. She has two young children and a little dog who keep her really busy!

We would love to welcome more d/Deaf and Hard-of-hearing children and young people, CODAs, hearing siblings and families at our events, so please do get in touch! Check out our May events in the poster below.
