27th November 2024
We've been hosting tons of fun events for our deaf children and young people, like BSL storytelling, a Halloween party, sensory play, online safety workshops, bowling, a museum trip, crazy golf, and two exciting athletics summer clubs!
We’ve been busy supporting deaf sports events for young people too. We teamed up with McDonald's to bring football sessions led by two inspiring deaf coaches for kids aged 5-11. We also support our local sensory service at monthly athletics and tennis events for ages 5-16. Every session is designed to help build a strong deaf identity, promote BSL, connect with adult deaf role models, share experiences, and boost confidence.
We’ve welcomed Anita Kanji and Wayne Sharples to our CYPS Team as Youth Workers. Both are profoundly deaf, with BSL as their first language, and bring years of professional experience as teachers and leaders in MDC’s wellbeing groups. Wayne has extensive experience in the arts, while Anita brings a strong background in organising events for local deaf clubs. They’re excited to meet all our members soon, if they haven’t had the chance already!
Coming up in December, we’ve got an aquarium visit, ice skating and festive BSL storytelling at Central Library. Do check out more details and book on our Eventbrite page by clicking on the link below.
