Learning BSL for free with Manchester Deaf Centre

Are you:

  • deaf, deafened or hard of hearing yourself and have never had opportunity to learn BSL?
  • a family member of a person who is deaf and you want to learn BSL?
  • a deaf BSL user and you have family or friends who want to learn BSL to be better able to communicate with you?
  • a Manchester resident aged 19 or over?

Please share the news that there is opportunity to learn for free with Manchester Deaf Centre.

We are pleased to update that we were successful in receiving funding from Manchester Adult Education Service (MAES) to offer more free BSL courses in 2024–2025.

All courses are beginner level

Next start dates will be in February and April 2025

An opportunity to learn face-to-face from experienced tutors who are deaf themselves

Short taster courses (10 hours) and longer courses (24 hours) available

This is our second year of working together with MAES to deliver these courses.

Last year 64% of learners gave their reason for wanting to learn as being deaf themselves or having a deaf family member or close friend. We are delighted to be able to share a testimony from one of our students, Murium, who explains what the impact of learning BSL was for her. We have translated her story into BSL. Please watch the video or read a text version by clicking on link number 1.
