In 2020 Manchester Deaf Centre secured funding from the Princess Trust for an exciting FREE new project ‘Get On’. 18 amazing young people from Manchester, Bolton, Salford, and Stockport have joined the 12-month project and we are already halfway through!
‘Get On’ includes motivational and social activities, one to one mentoring, job and career guidance, practical workshops like help with CV’s, how to prepare for an interview and work placements.
One of our Get On young people shared his thoughts recently during the Get On outdoor activities day:
‘Today as been awesome I felt like ‘James Bond’ on the speed boat. I think I will come back to the water centre on my own, I’ve checked out their website and you can do that. ‘Get On’ is awesome, I’ve made so many deaf new friends, so much better then gaming on my own in my bedroom. Can’t wait for the next event, I’ve got some ideas think I might join the Planning Group!’.
Get On Young people are also learning new creative skills such as photography, sailing and event management which includes planning a ‘Get On Role Model Event’ that will take place at MDC at the end of September The event is also being supported by Young Manchester.
Unfortunately, we do not have any places left on the ‘Get On’ project. However, we are hoping that new smaller projects will evolve from ‘Get On’ including young people who want to set up their own ‘micro business’ so watch this space!
