I am profoundly Deaf and was raised within a Deaf family (my mother, father and brother are all profoundly Deaf). Growing up I experienced the daily barriers that Deaf people face and due to this I became passionate in finding ways to support the Deaf/hard of hearing community to overcome these barriers.
I worked in education, supporting students with disabilities and deafness, for over 15 years before joining the team at Manchester Deaf Centre, where I commenced employment as a Specialist Employment Advisor. In 2018 I became an Advocate and Support Officer for the Trafford Deaf Advocacy and Support Service. During this time, I was also involved in the establishment of Manchester Deaf Centre’s Advocacy Service in Salford. In May 2020, I was excited to be offered and accept the role of Project Manager for the WAITE programme.
I am bilingual and adapt my communication depending on the preferred communication method of the person that I am speaking to such as speech and lip-reading, British Sign Language or Sign Supported English.
I enjoy travelling and exploring different countries. I spend my time socialising and having meals out with family and friends.
